Overall Course Description

Case Managers will learn how Remote Supports enables safe and independent living utilizing non-restrictive technology and trained remote staff to foster a supportive learning environment creating opportunities to practice making decisions and live a more self-directed life. Remote Supports meets the needs of person-centered planning starting with a comprehensive strengths-based consultation process. This course will empower case managers to use Remote Supports to help individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities achieve their hopes and dreams of independent living.

Introduction to Remote Supports: Outcomes

The case manager will:

  • Learn how Remote Supports satisfy CMS requirements.

  • Understand the five elements of a successful Remote Support Person-Centered Solution.

  • Understand how a person-centered plan that's inclusive of Remote Supports meets the needs, choices, and rights of people receiving home and community-based services (HCBS).

Creating A Learning Environment: Outcomes

The case manager will learn:

  • How Remote Supports can facilitate a supportive learning environment.

  • The elements of a supportive learning environment.

  • How increased control and choice leads to increased safety.

  • Aspects of Self-Directed Learning.

  • The difference between choice and control.

  • The Importance of Supported Privacy.

Talking With Families: Outcomes

The case manager will learn:

  • How to answer commonly asked questions by families and people with disabilities.

  • A working definition of supported privacy.

  • How Remote Supports is utilized to support people in the Community.

Implementing Solutions: Outcomes

The case manager will learn:

  • To apply Person-Centered Solutions to actual scenarios.

  • The details of the Strengths-Based, Person-Centered Consultation Process.

The Process: Outcomes

The case manager will:

  • Review learning outcomes from previous modules.

  • Learn the details of the Remote Support process.

  • Learn what to expect from a Remote Support Service.

  • Review general authorization steps for Remote Supports.

This course is FREE to case managers compliments of SafeinHome. This course can be submitted to your state governing body for contact hour credit.

About Your Instructor

Ann Eubank, LMSW, OTR/L, ATP, CAPS has focused her career on the use of technology to increase opportunities for independence within the community of people with disabilities. She has a background in research and development, nonprofit management and systems change. Most recently she worked within the Employment Community First Program in Tennessee facilitating the adoption of technology use for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities. Ann has presented peer-reviewed papers nationally and internationally since 1995. Ann is currently the Director of Marketing and Business Development for SafeinHome.
